Check out what Harvard School of Public Health recommends: Eat more whole, unprocessed foods. Add the Mediterranean diet into your nutrition habits. Be flexible with your diet - there is no rigid type of diet that proves to improve longevity. Use meal time for social gathering - this connection is vital for longevity. A study has shown it to be the number one factor for happiness and longevity! How Can You Maximize Healthspan? Experts are turning their focus to not just how long people stay alive but the number of years they can expect to do so free of disease - that’s what’s called healthspan! A 2022 report from the American Heart Association details a checklist of eight health factors and lifestyle behaviors, known as Life's Essential 8, for improving and maintaining good cardiovascular health. Adherence to these components has been shown to lower the risk for other chronic illnesses, promote healthy aging, and contribute to longer lifespans and healthspans. The checklist includes not smoking, staying physically active, getting enough sleep, and following a healthy eating pattern that includes whole foods and emphasizes consumption of fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, nuts, seeds and cooking with olive oil. Your treadmill may not be a time machine, but research shows that regular exercise can help slow the body’s aging process. Check it out!
